I have downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird 102.7.1.

After installing, opening the program, and clicking on Email, I am unable to configure the Thunderbird setup for my existing email address.

My existing email provider is SpamArrest. I am wanting to download all of my existing email messages from my SpamArrest account to my new Thunderbird email account. SpamArrest tech support informed me I needed to create a new SpamArrest in Thunderbird. I haven't been able to get passed the Thunderbird Account Setup page to even know if I have created a new Thunderbird account. I have tried auto-detect and configure manually of the configuration, I have used POP3 and IMAP protocol with the account configuration provided to me by SpamArrest tech support and nothing is working! I have been trying since last week!

Can someone, anyone please help?

Effective yesterday, I started to receive the following error message when trying to send and emails using Microsoft email account:

Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.office365.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'.

I verified SMTP Settings; they are correct and are as follows:

Server Name: smtp.office365.com Port: 587 Connection Security: STARTTLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 User Name: complete email account

I am having this identical error occurring on multiple Microsoft email accounts installed in Thunderbird, on the same computer. I uninstalled and reinstalled each email account and continue to receive the same error message on each email account.

Currently Installed Version of Thunderbird: 110.0b3 (64-bit)

Operating System: Windows Edition: Windows 11 Pro Version: 22H2 Installed on: 11/8/2022 OS Build: 22621.1194

The following was the last Update Installed on February 4, 2023, from Microsoft: 2023-01 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5022404)

I recently start receiving error: "The messages could not be moved or copied to folder 'Amazon on Local Folders' because writing to folder failed. To gain disk space, from the File menu, first choose Empty Trash, and then choose Compact Folders, and then try again." for all email moves to local folders.

Windows 10 OS build 19044.2546 Thunderbird 102.7.1 (64 bit)

Compact and empty trash - no change. Downgrade version - no change. Totally uninstall and reinstall - no change. Plenty of disk, but current local was large, so: Created empty local folder on system disk - same. Created dummy pop account (not attached to a server) new so 'empty' - same. check disk - no problems found.

Since I tried various target drives, folder/accounts, doesn't seem to be a profile issue, but with complete uninstall/install won't think it's an application issue, so ??? Also, occurred when downgraded to version I know was working.

In process of moving profile from Windows to Mac - will take a bit, so results pending...

1. Had Thunderbird on automatic updates (have used it for years.) 2. Used it earlier today, logged back in later and it had reverted to version 9.0.1 and all data was gone as in messages, contacts, etc. 3. Made a copy of the profile file; downloaded & installed version 102.7.1. 4. Brought up the new version--obviously not the version I'd been using as everything is so different (see #1 above, it was set to do automatic updates--???). Messages and filters are back but contacts are missing. 5. Did an import from the profile that I had copied (see #3 above) and restarted Thunderbird. Still no contacts.

Question: How do I get contacts back???

I'd be grateful for help!

A local folder with old emails has recently got corrupted. In the Profile folder the emails appear normally but within the TB program the emails all show the same content and a date of 1 Jan 1965. By doing a full Norton scan I discovered a couple of Trojans and another bug which have now been removed but the email problem is still there.

Should I do 'repair folder'?

delete messages

When I delete messages it states "not responding" .3 minutes later it deletes them. It did not used to do this. Where is the hang up?

In Thunderbird 107.7.1 on my MacBook Pro with M1 chip - When attaching a pdf to an email getting ready to be sent I am not able to open it and check if the pdf file is in good shape. I use Adobe Acrobat Pro as my preferred pdf reader and this is associated in control panel. I always check pdf's prior to sending to make sure it is correct. As soon as I click on the pdf attachment in the ready to send email I get the following "File name - Cannot be opened because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disk first and then opening the file." However, I am able to open pdf's with Acrobat Pro that are attached to emails that I receive without a problem. I have used Thunderbird for many years and this needs to be solved so I can do my business properly. Please advise as to how to get this corrected. Thank you. Bud

MAIN QUESTION How can I get rid of the ugly light-brown background in some incoming messages? All I want is a white background in incoming messages (both plain-text and HTML, unless the HTML code asks for a different background).


Thank you (after 10+ years) for finally making the font size adjustable in the folder and message pane. Also for finally fixing not easily being able to get out of numbering when forcing blank lines between numbered paragraphs.

I was actually very happy with version 60.x.x because I had a set of add-ons that working around most of the bugs and had an email client that did what I wanted. With the migration to the new add-ons internals, I lost most every behavior I needed/enjoyed.

In closing, if I can have a default white background/canvas on incoming email messages, I'll stay with T-bird. If not, I'm ready to give up on Thunderbird (after using it for 15 years) and trade it for the the boring stability of Outlook.

I know you are volunteer organization. So thank you for trying so hard for so many years.

I have Thunderbird setup to leave the emails on the server until I delete them. However, I only deleted a duplicate of an email. Should this have happened? If so, how can I avoid it if I want to clean up duplicate emails on Thunderbird? My mail server is a POP server, if that's important. And I'm using the Remove Duplicates addon

For all its idiosyncrasies, I have come to rely on Thunderbird for my considerable e-mail needs. This involves switching fairly regularly between my Inbox, Outbox and Draft folders since only their titles are/were displayed simultaneously.

Inadvertently, I clicked on something and they have now disappeared obliging me to select Go > Folder > Local Folders before another folder's index can be selected and seen.

PLEASE, how can one rectify this? I'll be very grateful for FOOL-PROOF step-by-step instructions.

When I delete a message, either by clicking delete when the message is open, or by marking several messages and hitting delete, the messages go *poof* and are never moved to trash or anything like that. So if I mistakenly delete a message, im screwed, its gone. Im using gmail, and so there seems to be a trash folder under inbox, and another trash folder under local folders, but both are always empty. The trash folder on gmail has items in it that I have deleted using the browser interface or phone app. How do I configure TBird to move deleted messages to trash, and synch that trash with the trash folder on gmail? I dont mind manually cleaning up trash every few weeks.

Hi - I've been trying to set up caldav and carddav ever since I deployed my iredmail server with sogo installed. I notice on my phone and through the sogo interface I can save cards, save calendar items, etc and observe them with no issues. On thunderbird windows 10 x64 102.7.0 (and earlier) I've not been able to see any items from caldav or carddav - even though the app seems to be aware of the connections and isn't complaining. For instance, I added a calendar item in thunderbird for a caldav acct and see the item in my phone, but not on my thunderbird calendar. Also, I see cards exist in my carddav acct in thunderbird, but the data is all blank. photo attached. I've triple checked the config, and everything looks good. Any ideas on where I should diagnose this further?

Secondly - It was handy when the BOLD unread email REMAINED bold when sent to bin (I used to read at leisure) knowing they were not so important, then delete after read. NOW, once sent to bin, they are no longer bold, so not aware if read OR not. Nuisance indeed.
