Firefox will disconnect from aol e-mail after a few minutes without prompting.

When I am in the aol e-mail, the message will come up "disconnected, please log in again"

Click the orange Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Advanced and in the General tab, checkmark "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page".

This will prevent the page from reloading which is probably what's disconnecting you.
