Hello - Installed Thunderbird 102.2.0 (64-bit) and it seems to have turned on message threading in all folders. Is this a new feature or a bug ?

Also I have many folders - how do I turn of message threading on folders at once, without having to touch every single folder.

Thanks !

The developers decided to make the change. Some like it, many do not. You can change the default by using the config editor (tools>general) and changing mailnews.default_view_flags value to 0. To update all folders, highlight a change folder and on the menu bar at top of message view, click 'columns to display', scroll down to 'apply folder to' and select 'folder and children' and a list of accounts should appear. Select the desired account to update all folders. This isn't a perfect solution, as you may have other settings that need changing (such as displaying 'from' for inbox and 'recipient' in sent folder). That's the best I can do for you.

I tried removing the threading first I am not seeing a "General" item in the tools menu also changing a column setting did not affect the child folders.

This is really a huge headache, when can we expect a new release that fixes this problem?

Thank you.

I meant tools>settings>general. on your question, I think an improvement to the column setting feature may come soon.

Thanks for the clarification. Neither change helped.

I support software and always deliver new features turned off, perhaps Thunderbird development could adopt a similar policy.

Thanks

I fully concur. Did you find the option to apply setting to child folders? What info I gave you does work, so let me assist further if needed. I assume you got the one folder unthreaded? If you highlight that folder, move cursor to menu bar above message list and the right-most icon lets you select columns. At bottom of the menu is the one to apply that column setting elsewhere.

So, I select my inbox click above the message list and select to remove "Thread" I then scroll to the bottom of the menu and select "Apply to folder and children" and then confirm. It seems to remove the "thread" icon from the headers, but the messages are still grouped by thread, so it really doesn't address the issue.

you need to first highlight a folder and select view>sort by>unthreaded. Then follow the steps to apply to entire account. Yes, it's clumsy at best.

DSlater...thanks for tackling this crazy snafu on Thunderbird's part!

What wasn't covered, I don't believe, is which to apply to "Folder and its Children,"...columns, or current view? I think "current view" works, but nothing remains as set, either, so this is a huge time-waster.

I have no use for threading, and I wish Thunderbird would resolve this soon.

Thanks, Steve

ps-- I applied the View/Sort/Unthreaded to the "Category folders"(for lack of a better description) and then the "folder and children" reproduction of the "current view, and it looks like things are holding. I think that would also work if I used the "inbox", and that should set all folders and children beneath.

I find threading really inconvenient. Please don't start copying Outlook and foisting all sorts of developer preferences on users which do not mesh with their Ux and working practices. This is not what we choose Thunderbird for!

Ok soooo - after removing threading from numerous folders and having things work normally for the past few months. This evening, an upgrade was forced on me (102.6.1 ) and BAM - back to threaded message lists. This is absolutely ridiculous and makes for a huge time suck.

Puzzling. I've seen no one else with that issue. I am at 102.6.1 and all folders remain unthreaded. I regret this happened for you.
