Hallo,

in the Thunderbird inbox I find 2 folders (Junk and Spam). What is the difference between the two folders? In Settings -> Privacy & Security, for example, only the Junk folder is mentioned, the Spam folder is not mentioned at all. However, there are mails in both folders that are marked with the junk flag. Since I do not want to manage unnecessary folders, I would like to do without one if it is unnecessary. Can I delete the spam folder completely? Or do the mails have to be moved to the junk folder before deleting? Would be grateful for any help.

Spam is the term used by the mail provider, and is where it filters spam at the server before mail is downloaded to TB. Some providers use the term Junk or Bulk Mail, but TB's Junk Controls only refer to its own 'Junk' folder.

You can unsubscribe to the provider's Spam/Junk/Bulk folder (not recommended), or disable TB's Junk Controls in Tools/Account Settings, or keep both options in place, as they are performing two types of filtering. Personally, I apply the very reliable filtering of the providers and disable TB's Junk Controls.
