I have just installed Thunderbird 78 on my Kbuntu 19.04 system and it will not show the text of emails Menus are OK

As I have tried to fix it I re-installed version 68 and have lost ALL emails

As ALways This is urgent for me but I hope you can help soon

Can you see the message text if you open the message in a new window rather than a tab ?
