All of my addons broke. (except one tab)

more options

I was using fire fox as normal and then all of a sudden all of my add-ons except one tab disappeared. Going into my add-ons settings I can see that all of my other add-ons aside from one tab have been moved into unsupported. They all have the message " <addon> could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled."

I tried Going to the Fire Fox add-ons page and I can not install any add-ons. Rebooting Fire Fox does not fix the issue.

It also reset my default search engine.

Chosen solution

Mozilla has rolled-out a fix for this. The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours, you don’t need to take active steps.

In order to be able to provide this fix on short notice, they are using the Studies system. You can check if you have studies enabled

  1. Go to [=] > Options > Privacy & Security.
  2. Make sure Allow Firefox to install and run studies is check marked.

I you had it disabled, you can disable studies again after your add-ons have been re-enabled.

They are working on a general fix that doesn't need to rely on this and will keep you updated.

There is a problem with the certificate that is used to sign some extensions. This is being worked by the Add-ons team.

See:

At about 6:10 PST we received a report that a certificate issue for Firefox is causing add-ons to stop working and add-on installs to fail.
Our team is actively working on a fix. We will update as soon as we have more information.

The (problem/fix) broke all my themes and most addons that worked perfectly fine with the latest version of FF. 66.03 64 bit Can the (problem/fix) be rolled back? At this time I am not sure it is the fault of the hotfix, as it started today when I woke up. I keep Firefox open 24/7 and everything was working just fine last night.

Hi bobn9lvu, what is the current status -- do the extensions say they cannot be verified?

The problem was that a certificate expired, so all verifications which depended on that certificate failed and none of those add-ons could be trusted.

The hotfix (through the study system) works around that. Your add-ons should be re-enabled, or an Enable button should appear. Did that part work?

Do you know if you got the patch(es) yet? For comparison, my about:studies page looks like the attached.

Hi bobn9lvu, thank you for the screenshot.

Did your extensions get an Enable button after the patch ran? Or maybe it didn't run successfully... If you haven't already, could you try exiting/quitting Firefox and starting it up again?

All of my non working addons and themes are found in the unsupported tab, with no option to re-enable. Most of my addons are needed for security/safety reasons. Restarted ff multiple times with no fix.

Hi bobn9lvu, there is a bug on file where the developers are trying to figure out why the patch doesn't work in some cases:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1549078

Maybe some of the comments/suggestions there will be relevant.

If all else fails, there is a script you can run to temporarily override the failed verification flags, but it isn't an officially supported solution:

This script on Reddit.com DOES work great! Thank you.

That is temporary so hopefully the study will install the new certificate before your extensions become "unverified" again.

Or you can try the manual methods in this and later replies: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1258208#answer-1218876
