dear sir i did what you told me and all my emails are downloaded to thunderbird. the problem now is that when i try to send an email i see this message " Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again."

In that case you have either a problem with antivirus software, or an addon you installed in Thunderbird.
