Why does firefox open multiple ports (often more than 4) ?

Hello Just Recently while trying to find the cause of you tube videos stalling, I looked at the network monitor built into Kaspersky internet security, which shows that firefox has opened multiple ports and wonder if this is normal behaviour. I still have no idea why you tube stalls (this only started happening recently). Suppose it could be browser, You tube of my ISP ! I now it's not vital but I wonder if anyone can help ?
