This article should help you diagnose the issue: Websites look wrong | Troubleshooting | Firefox Help.

I've done all of the list...."internet security program "such as a Firewall" statement does not offer any advice. I've had Mac desktop firewall on and McAfee firewall on both say nothing about blocking script. (both ran fine prior to ffox 4.0.1) I've turned both off without any change, plus restart and permissions. Tech at work says dump 4.0.1 and revert to ffox 3.5....whata ya think? Thanks

Well, you could install an older version, but usually that doesn't cure this kind of problem. Instead, try creating a new profile. It should operate normally as though you were a first-time Firefox user. If that works out, then you can move your bookmarks to the new profile. Or you could go back to your old profile and try to rule out causes for the problem.

First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

To create a new (blank) profile, fire up the Profile Manager: Managing profiles.

To move key settings like bookmarks from your damaged profile to the new profile, see: Recovering important data from an old profile.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a High Contrast setting on Mac?

High contrast setting is good...entering the line item from "starting profile Manager" and I get "no such file". I've always liked Firefox but I'm burned out chasing this. Clearly I need to uninstall McAfee because turning it off didn't help and I've done everything else. I need a few days free of restart, password, restart. oh, safari works fine. Thanks for the help
