My cache memory will not increase over 1024 why not

I work Tec support for a company that uses firefox we recently went to a new program that seems to have issues when the cache memory is lower then 2048 some computers have no problem increasing there memory size other wont allow this to happen. all computers have over 2gigs of ram

What happens if you set the browser.cache.disk.capacity pref directly to 2048000 on the about:config page and disable the automatic setting ?
