ERROR MSG: "Sending the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to the Outgoing server (SMTP) smtpauth.earthlink.net timed out. Try again.'

My system is running: Windows 10 Ver 21H - 64 Bit, Thunderbird Ver 102.4.2 - 64 Bit, and my email provider is earthlink.net

This inability of connect to the outgoing SMTP server to send a message using Thunderbird began suddenly about two weeks ago and has been TOTAL since. The only suggestions I've run across online have been (1) Disable antivirus programs and retest. - Had NO effect; and (2) Use Thunderbird's own tool to clear recent history etc. and retest. - Had NO effect.

My installation of Thunderbird still receives emails all day long, and I can log directly into earthlink.net (my email provider) and use their local client to compose and send messages without a problem. The error message appears to be correct when it identifies the connection between Thunderbird and earthlink's smtpauth.earthlink.net server as the broken link. These two programs have run flawlessly together for me for well over 20 years and while I much prefer the interface and storage options of Thunderbird over the defaults provided by earthlink.net, unless there is some fix available, I will have to switch over to directly dealing with earthlink.net and drop Thunderbird.

Someone here may have some suggestions if you would post a screenshot of your SMTP server pane.

If you have a link to instructions on how to transfer/attach a screen shot to this form, I'd greatly appreciate it! The Windows' online directions seem to be only an ad for their new office product. In lieu of that functionality, here is a "manual" copy of salient parts of Account Settings/Outgoing Server (SMTP) display:

Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings

When managing your identities you can use a server from this list by selecting it as the Outgoing Server (SMTP), or you can use the default server from this list by selecting "Use Default Server".

bbcrain@earthlink.net - smtpauth.earthlink.net (Default)

Details of selected server:

                   Description: <not specified>
                Server Name: smtpauth.earthlink.net
                               Port: 587
                   User Name: bbcrain@earthlink.net

Authentication Method: Normal password

    Connection Security: STARTTLS

Hope this helps!
