You can set this pref to false on the about:config page to prevent opening the download panel on each download.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

You can use Delete in the right-click context menu of a file in the Downloads Manager to remove this file from the hard drive.

When I open an email attachment it appears that it is opening in Foxfire. If so is the file saved? How do I delete it after I read the attachment? Thanks

Are you reading your mail in Firefox, and the PDF opens in a new tab next to the message?

You can check the address bar for the PDF:

If the address is an https:// address, the PDF is stored in the web content cache with web pages and images. If you wanted to clear it from the cache, see: How to clear the Firefox cache.

If the address is a file:/// address, the PDF is stored in your Downloads folder or other location on your system. As mentioned in an earlier reply, you can delete the file using the Downloads list's right-click > Delete menu item:

When Firefox updates the list (this may take some time), a note will appear for that download that the file was moved or is missing.
