I just clicked on the "+" sign for a new tab, and there are no icons for webpages that I've saved. :(

Hi UncleAaron, apologies for sounding like a cliché, but have you tried turning it off and on again? More specifically, if you haven't already, could you close out of Firefox and do a normal Windows shutdown and restart to complete any pending updates and release any file locks.

If Firefox again starts up without your data:

Do you get any error messages?

Do you recall Firefox performing a "Refresh"? That creates a new folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data. Treat that as highly valuable and we'll come back to it if you have one.

Could Firefox be running in a new profile? To check on that:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have any other profile(s) listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Any progress so far?

I shutdown the computer, and then restarted it. I didn't get any error messages. I have two profiles (see image). One profile says "default".

I also noticed, that FF, when I first click the icon on the taskbar, will crash. I have to manually click it again for it to start. Could this be the culprit??

Does default have good stuff in it? I have no idea. You can check out what is in that profile using the method I mentioned of clicking the Launch profile in new browser button.

Crashing at startup is not good. Does a Mozilla Crash Reporter window come up, or a Windows crash dialog, or does it just go away?

If I switch to default profile, my browser is "bare bones", with nothing that I've added (addons). As far as crash report, I don't get a dialog box.

But, when I click the "+" for a new tab, I do get my icons back. :) yayyy!

Okay, the default profile must be a leftover from some other time.

For now, the main problems are:

(1) Browser crashes at startup -- no explanation yet

(2) Session isn't restored automatically or session can't be restored after the crash

For #1, we don't really have a lot to go on if there are no crash reports of any kind.

For #2, I assume that other history is retained normally, and this is not a bigger question of Firefox not saving any history.

As a temporary workaround, you could consider a session management add-on. These are the ones I'm aware of that you might investigate/try out:

Use database storage:

• https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/session-boss/

Use bookmark storage:

• https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/session-sync/
• https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/my-sessions/

Bookmark storage is more robust in that Firefox backs it up regularly. However, having the extra data show up when you are searching your bookmarks may be annoying.

FF is saving links to where I've last visited. That's a good thing. I'll try these add ons, and see what they do.
