Running Windows 10 Pro on a Lenovo E31.

I cannot get rid of cracktube.net showing up when I enter "cr" in the address bar, heading for "craigslist". My fault no doubt; I was searching for a crack for a piece of design software. Lesson learned.

The site does not appear in my history, and I have followed various suggestions here to manage stored entries; again, the site simply does not appear.

Malwarebytes blocks the site as a phishing site; problem did not change when I ran MSRT.

Also, and more annoying, when I go to a legit site for the first time, the site appears in my history but does not come up when I enter the first few letters (or almost all of the letters) the next time I want to go there.

I have, with no resultant improvement: Removed and reinstalled FF twice. Located 5 profiles in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\; by renaming each in turn I discovered the one that I am actually using and deleted the rest. Manually browsed my entire history and found no mention of the offending site.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks all.

This is normal. It only appears after a few visits.

The in-URL-bar "autofill" feature that suggests top-level site addresses uses a separate list (separate database table) that should get cleaned up automatically when the visits to a site (and all bookmarks) are removed, but it doesn't always get cleaned up.

Since you cannot visit the site, it's a bit difficult to create a history entry so you can right-click > Forget About This site (which is the typical recommendation for this situation). Hmm.

There is an add-on you can use to add an entry to history as if you visited it, by right-clicking a link to the page and clicking "Toggle visited status". I already use this extension but most people do not have it. If you want to try that: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/link-visitor-5/

This has been going on for weeks.

Thanks for the reply - I never thought to check bookmarks.

I disabled Malwarebytes, went to the site, closed the tab, closed FF. re-opened and highlighted the site and clicked "Forget about this site". Site is now removed from history; typing "cr" in the address bar still brings up the site - aaarrrghhhhh There is an add-on you can use to add an entry to history as if you visited it, by right-clicking a link to the page and clicking "Toggle visited status". Appreciate the suggestion but momentarily disabling Malwarebytes took care of adding and then removing site from history.

thank you

Along the lines of any port in a storm I just did a complete registry search for "cracktube" - came up empty. Not even sure I can explain why I thought to do it.
