using Firefox, why does Google show in the search bar

I thought Firefox was independent of Google but it shows all the time in the search bar. should i give up on Firefox and just use Chrome?

I think Google is the default search engine, but you can choose your own. Go to about:preferences#search and choose your default search engine there. You can also completely remove search engines in the list.
