When I click "show all history" in the library, it only gives me option to go back 7 days, instead of giving me the option to go back to previous months. I'm using Firefox 72.0.2 on a Mac

You probably only have that much history. Perhaps your Firefox history was reset recently. Do you have a folder named Old Firefox Data on your desktop?

more options

Maybe Firefox created a new profile.

If you lost personal data then it is possible that a new default-release profile folder has been created. See "Determine if Firefox has created a new profile":

You can open the about:profiles page via the location bar to check whether multiple profiles are present and what profile Firefox currently is using.

No. I didn’t do any updates or clear history, either.

Do you have the Old Firefox Data folder that I mentioned on your desktop?

I don’t see one; I didn’t create one. Are you saying Firefox would have created one at some point? Thank you.

Yes. If Firefox reset for some reason (in this case without your knowledge) it would have created such a folder on your Desktop. It looks like it did not, so it probably did not reset.

Go to "~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/" in Finder. You can press Shift+Cmd+G and paste that path in if you want. Is there only one folder here? I should have a weird name. Inside this folder. There should be a file called places.sqlite. Let us know how large this file is. It contains your history.

You can also open this file up with an sqlite editor. If you look inside you should be able to locate all of the history stored in Firefox. Let us know if you see older history in there.

ok, I have locate the places.sqlite folder. it is 5.2 mb in size. I downloaded the sqlite editor but cannot open the places.sqlite folder with the editor. i get the message: Could not open database file. Reason: database is locked. I looked at preferences for the Db browser app but don't see any permissions I could lock or unlock.

I also have permission to read and write ; checked via Finder: Home profile.

You can only access places.sqlite with an external viewer when Firefox is closed.

See also websites like this:

Note that the file size of places.sqlite doesn't mean much as under normal condition the file size never is decreased when data is removed (this space will be reused when necessary) and increasing to add new data is done in small chunks (one or more disk clusters).
