Trying to open books in Google Play Books.

I have tried in Chrome, Firefox, IE, Vivaldi and Opera but all with the same result: "If you want to read books in Google Play you must allow cookies from books.googleusercontent.com"

However, what ever I do allow books.googleusercontent.com or cookies from same i does not work

Eg. Opera: Advanced Settings - Privacy & Security - Site Setting - Cookies - Allow - Add - books.googleusercontent.com

As mentioned, this is an issue in 5 browsers and I can't help thinking that it must be Google Play that has an issue.

I have tried Google Help forums but with no answers

I cant be right the every user has to go deep down in settings to be able to read the books (I'm frustrated, admit it)

Anyone knowing anything?

Take care

J

Have tried at home, on my private PC, and I can read books on Google Play Books.

Thus, the conclusion must be that my company IT department has set some restrictions that do not allow me to use Google Play Books on my company laptop

Case closed, thank you very much for your inputs

Wish you the best of summers

Hello Grunt Six

Would you try this please :

When you're on https://play.google.com/books or https://play.google.com/store/books (if that doesn't work, try any google.com site), click on the 'i' in a circle, next to the padlock at the left side of the address bar.

Then click on the little black arrow on the dropdown (next to 'Connection') and then on "More Information", which will take you to "Page Info".

Click on the 'Permissions" tab and scroll down to "Set Cookies". Uncheck "Use Default" and check "Allow".

Then close and restart Firefox.

Any luck ?

Hi McCoy

Thank you for your swift reply.

https://play.google.com/books was already set to 'Allow'

https://www.google.com/ was not set to 'Allow' but is now

Firefox closed and restarted but still no luck, I'm afraid

Tried in Chrome too, cookies seems to be allowed for play.google.com but same result

  • edit* Forgot to mention that I have cleared cookies, cache, lock, stock and barrel in my second attempt

Take care

J

PS It's my work laptop (Haven't tried on my home desktop, yet)

Wonder if the company admins can set restrictions on an 'overall' level?

As this is happening in every other browser, would you take a look at this please (if you haven't already) :

You could also try :

Clear the Firefox cache :

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems :
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-stored (scroll down to : "Delete cookies for a single site")

I just found this (exact same problem as you - with all browsers) :

Hi McCoy

Thank you, once again. Really appreciated

I'll give the different possibilities a try. And try if I have the same issue on my desktop at home .

Fortunately I can read my books in Adobe Reader, on my Android mobile and my iPad. But not being able to in Google Play on a PC is annoying :-/

The below post is mine :-)

Nothing has happened for two days and I was afraid that the forum was 'unpopulated' Not all forums has the same reaction time as this ;-)

Once again, thank you

Did you create an allow exception for this domain:

In most cases it is easier/better to create the exception for the top level domain instead of for each sub domain separately.

Gentlemen, I'm giving up, for now,

Despite you friendly and swift help as I do not have sense nor skill to make it work *sigh*

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
