Disgusted with FF over the integration of Pocket
I have been a user of Netscape and later Firefox since the 1990s.
I was absolutely mortified the other day when I received a Firefox update, only to find that an extension named "pocket" was installed without my acknowledgement or permission, and it was presenting me with content based on my prior browsing patterns. Horribly invasive. I was even further mortified to find that it have been INTEGRATED into the application with configuration parameters in the about:config section! A BAD move and one FF should reverse itself on. A BAD idea in the first place, and even MORE BAD in light of the recent Facebook privacy scandal. Firefox has made some pretty bad stumbles in recent years, but this one take the cake.
I have been a loyal user over the years, but may soon have to become a "formerly" loyal user. Please pull out the "pocket" integration from the product.
Will Firefox release a product in the future that is NOT integrated with pocket?

hi dlindsay73, pocket is a mozilla product as firefox is. firefox will show stories curated by pocket on the new tab page by default. the selection of stories is also done locally, so your browsing history does NOT leave your system at all. if you don't want to see them, you can easily disable that section like everything else shown on the new tab page by clicking on the gear icon on the top right of that page.
(this is also not what the pocket system addon that you might have seen is for - this will provide the integration to save articles/pages for later that is available in the page action menu at the right of the address bar)
I'm so angry over you pocket bullshit right now I may just dump your who program. You and Facebook and Amazon taking personal information to badger and pester people with unwanted ads - you can all go to hell. I can't find any link to pocket to disable it or remove it. Not a mistake on your part but something you did on purpose.

Hi, type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to extensions.pocket.enabled and double click on it to change 'Value' from True to False.
