Firefox Mac frequently crashes/quits unexpectedly - almost unusable

Firefox v50.1.0 running on MacBook Pro with MacOS Sierra 10.12.2 (16C67)

Mac Firefox has never been trouble-free or even particularly stable in my experience. Recently the frequency of crashes, both freezes and unexpected quits, became so frequent that it became nearly unusable. I reset Firefox to default (not fun experience considering all the drawbacks but worth a try) and that helped somewhat. But then I reinstalled latest version of Adobe Flash Player which I need to play videos and everything went south again, much further south. Now the quitting is nearly constant.

CNN.com which is my home page won't even work properly. Get frequent "script is busy" error messages, and/or freezes, or quits. So no way to watch any youtube videos, etc.

Hope someone can help me cure this.

Are you using any plugins? I have you tried to reinstall firefox, update it ?
