Here is what I get when I go to my desktop and click on Mozilla Firefox I get the error box that says Couldn't load XPCOM message. And I also cannot uninstall Mozilla or reinstall it because of the error . I am totally at a lost of what to do. I can't even open the web browser of mozilla let alone the page with the add and plugins and theme pages. The only thing I can reach is the support page, and that is all. Please is there anyone who can help? I have also gone and tried to work in Safe Mode how ever I have internet service when I'm in safe mode , so trying to work in either is not working. Please help.

Your Firefox program folder is damaged in some way. Please try this:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

It only takes a few minutes.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 48.0.2 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) Choose the "Windows" version (32-bit) rather than the 64-bit version for maximum plugin compatibility.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer, rename the program folder as follows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Can you start Firefox?

Thanks for the response, however everytime I do a install , it always install 43.0.6 version, so I can't install the updated version. When working in the safe mode or the safe mode with networking I do not have an internet connection. So I guess I will be paying money to get my computer working again with mozilla. Anyway, thanks again for trying.

Yes, XP and Vista users are served Firefox 43 and then need to use the internal updater (Update Firefox to the latest release). The updater doesn't work?

If you have all the latest Windows service packs, you can try a Firefox 48.0.2 installer from the following archive site. You'll need to select your preferred language (if in doubt, check the address bar while you're on this site, since that usually has the correct code):
