Hi, I've had this problem since 25/June - I cant send or receive email - it always says timed out reaching pop or smtp.googlemail.com Can anyone help please ?

The details are : - I updated to the latest version but that didn't help (I was 1 version behind). - I've disable all extensions and restarted in safe mode but that didn't help. - I log onto gmail manually and everything works there. But I cant "POP" it to my PC.

If you cannot send or receive maybe you updated Thunderbird recently.

Check Firewall/Anti-virus software. Thunderbird must be set to 'Allow'. Sometimes you need to unset and reset to get it to pick up the current version.

Hi, it wasn't specifically any of the things you mentioned above, but you definitely put me on the right track. Thank You !

I disabled Avast, rebooted, reinstalled, then when I started thunderbird it asked for my password, which it hadn't done for ages. Now its working perfectly. I think somewhere along the line the password got lost but Avast was preventing thunderbird from asking me for it ?

Anyway, thanks again !
