I have followed ALL instructions for Firefox Sync and keep getting "Unexpected Error" when I try to log in on desktop.
1) have refreshed Firefox - doesn't help 2) have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox - doesn't help 3) have updated ALL other machines to current version Firefox - they are syncing fine, doesn't help this machine
Any suggestions?

Hi, First uninstall after delete files in this folder.
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Mozilla
Re-Install or clear with CCleaner or anyone software
Note that the above suggestion will remove all profiles that are stored in that location, so I would recommend not to follow this advice.
Try to delete the Weave folder and the signedInUser.json file in the Firefox profile folder and delete the prefs.js files to reset all prefs and maybe also delete the compatibility.ini file to reinitialize the profile. You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can check the about:sync-log page via the location/address bar to see if there are error logs available.
You can upload the log to this website if the log is too big to put in a reply.
Thanks for these suggestions. I have tried each of them and still no luck. I don't find any error logs.
I have two other machines configured the same way... one desktop at work and another laptop. They are all running the same software... Dropbox, LastPass, etc. Those sync just fine.
I cannot log in or create a new account on this home machine. I also can't use the "forgot password" link. The same thing happens... it starts to spin like something is happening, after 10-15 seconds a red bar comes up that says "Working" and then in another 15-20 seconds after that, the red bar with "Unexpected Error" shows up.
Any other suggestions? Thanks for helping me noodle through this!

You can temporarily set the services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess pref to true on the about:config page to also get a log of a successful Sync. Do not forget to reset the services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess pref to false after you have finished testing Sync.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
See "Creating a profile":
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
Created new profile on desktop, did not work.
Installed Firefox on a brand new laptop, sync would not work.
Did you try to remove the Sync account and recreate the Sync account?
Thank you for sticking with me on this...
But, alas... the link you posted redirects to the sign in page. I can't get /settings to work.
Can't you log in to that Firefox account via that page?
No. I cannot log into an account. I cannot create a new account. I cannot Sync anything. I get the same sequence of events on two different machines: 1) I enter my info and hit return, 2) the little circle spins like something is happening, 3) within 10-15 seconds a red bar appears that says "Working", and 4) within another 10-15 seconds the red bar reads "Unexpected Error."
This same sequence also happens on a BRAND NEW laptop I just brought home from work yesterday and installed Firefox for the first time.
Could this be something with my home network settings?
p.s. I am the question originator... somehow in the process of implementing previous suggestions my old profile was deleted
- UPDATE at 12:57pm Thursday
This HAS to be something with my network settings at home. I am now at the office where Sync is working just fine on my work desktop and the BRAND NEW work laptop where I was getting the error messages when I tried this at home.
Any suggestions on where to look?

Problem resolved. This was a network issue. I connected using an iPhone personal hotspot to bypass home router and it worked.
For anyone struggling with the spinning red bar and "Unexpected Error" you may want to consider looking at your network connection.
