Why not make the changes you just made to search window an option? Not only do they not work for me I do not believe they work as intended.

I may not remember which search engine I was on last. WHO will? I start typing to see what happens in your new window and then it wants me to select. I am searching a stock, I click yahoo finance but I have no clue that it went to that search engine. I then type in blue as that is the stock symbol and it takes me to Bing results for everything blue in the world..I tried again, success , I read, I open and new tab and put in another stock symbol and it takes me again to bing, but yahoo finance was the last engine I used.

There is no default search engine. That is a flawed concept. Which engine I use depends on what I am searching.
Such a drastic change whether it works as intended or not should be optional. Simply that their is NO symbol up there to illustrate what engine you are using when you begin typing is poor thinking in design.
I immediately uninstalled the updated version and went back to 33.

hi seimei,

There is no default search engine. That is a flawed concept. Which engine I use depends on what I am searching.

the new search interface in firefox 34 and upwards does address exactly this situation and is optimized for that scenario - you type your search term and select the search engine you want to go it to & you're done (if you want do do a search with the default engine just hit enter). in the old interface you needed at least one more click for that action...

please also note that for the moment at least it's still possible to change back to the old interface in firefox 34 and above: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named browser.search.showOneOffButtons. double-click it and change its value to false (this will take a restart of the browser to have an effect).
