OK. Done the Safe mode thing, after I worked out how to get into SM in 8.1!

Still no sign of Monday's History, but sites I went to Today show up in full and safe mode. I have noticed though that if View is set to Date and Site the sites I visit do not show there unless I go to By Date or By Site first, they then show in By Date and Site. Is that normal?

Ctl+Shift+H shows all of Today and yesterday, but not Monday.

So for the moment, it looks like things are better but I'm left with the loss of Monday's History, so I suggest I leave it 2-3 days to see how it works out. I should then be getting daily History. I'm thinking as I can't remember much about Monday perhaps there wasn't any History or it might have got lost.

I don't know what happened to my last post, I hope it is still legible!

When you open the Main History Manager, set it to display by date. The display should show the sites you were at recently. For now, this is what we want. Once all of this is sorted, you can set it up as you want.

What ever is gone . . . . . is gone. For now, don't worry about it. What we want to do is find out why it's gone. This is why we are doing all of this.

If your history is being recorded while the computer is in safe mode, then one of the other programs on you system is doing a number on Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

Also, check the programs that are on your computer

Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs. Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

Disable Anything that could be interfering with Firefox. If you are not sure, disable it anyway. Anti-Virus, disk cleaning / repair, and other such programs may have an option to clean out browser history. Open all of then, and turn off that option.

Once all this is done, restart the computer normally. Then FF normally. Jump around web sites for 10 - 15 minutes. After, check the Main History Manager. Does it look like its all there?

Close Firefox. Wait a few minutes and restart. Check History. Is everything the same?

But my instruction said; privacy.clearOnShutdown.history = False

Sorry about that, you're right. I just checked and Privacy.clearonshutdownhistory = true. I have now toggled it to False. Could be significant.

Your other suggestions will take a while, and I need to see if the above makes any difference.

As I said earlier in the thread, the only uitilty I use is Advanced System Care and I have treble checked that fFrefox is not touched at all by anything in ASC.

Another day and I now have Today, Yesterday and Last 7 days!

Checking the library everything seems to be there, loads of history entries for the week to date, with the exception of Monday as I think Monday's History got zapped.

I'm happy with that, I just need to thank you, FredMcD and jscher , CoryMH, co-rel and anyone else who helped get this sorted.
