You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox 31.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

Try creating a new Profile and see if the default search engines appear in the new Profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles#w_creating-a-profile

@the-edmeister. The instructions were not applicable. I could not find the profile manager. I'm running Vista 32-bit.

I did try to reset firefox but that did not work.

You are sure that Firefox was completely closed before trying to launch the Profile Manager? If in doubt, restart Windows to make sure the Firefox process isn't hung and is closed completely.

Assuming you installed Firefox in the default location, didn't using "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p in the Run box work either?

@the-edmeister> We created a dummy account and closed my account and opened the dummy account and it did not fix the problem.

@cor-el> THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. The problem is solved thanks to this link https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html you gave me. I will put this link in every location I can find in case I ever need it in the future. And I will go to forums and see if I can help anyone else having the same issue. I have another issue maybe you can help me with. My printer: Dell Photo All-in-one 926 was recently reinstalled because of a virus, when we reinstalled Windows Vista 32bit and it worked fine before this and now I keep getting the error 2200. And we ( me and the computer geeks) have tried everything that the web has to offer. Can you help with this?

You're welcome.

I don't have experience with issues about printing, so I'm afraid that I can't help you with this.

You can try to reset the print prefs on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
