I mentioned this to a Rogers tech and he said it is not their problem - probably a software/programme problem. Any ideas?

Lost IMAP & SMTP connections between Thunderbird and Gmail

I have lost my IMAP and SMTP connections between Thunderbird v91.9.0 on Windows 10 and two Gmail accounts. One is a standard @gmail.com account and the other is an @my_d… (funda kabanzi)

I have lost my IMAP and SMTP connections between Thunderbird v91.9.0 on Windows 10 and two Gmail accounts. One is a standard @gmail.com account and the other is an @my_domain account on Google Workspace. The experience is (almost) the same on both.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I try to read IMAP mail through Thunderbird, I'm presented with a pop-up (apparently from Google) to log into the gmail account with the email address pre-populated in the "Enter your email" field. Curiously, the email address for the Google Workspace account is broken into two parts with the user name left justified in the field, the @my_domain right justified and a gap between them. This is not true for the standard @gmail.com account, where the field is prepopulated with a left justified username@gmail.com. I click the "Next" button and an "Enter your password pop-up (apparently from Google) appears, into which I enter the password and click "Next".

Then I see a pop-up (apparently from Google) which says "Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account", with "Allow" and "Cancel" buttons. I click "Allow" and often (but not always) see a small pop-up (apparently from Thunderbird) which says "Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com".

The experience on the sending side through SMTP is similar. Upon clicking "Send" in Thunderbird, I'm presented with the same sequence of pop-ups (apparently from Google) to enter Google user name, password and permission to allow Thunderbird to access my email. Then there is a "sending message" pop-up (apparently from Thunderbird) which never completes.

Here are what I think are the relevant Thunderbird settings --

 Thunderbird settings for user@my_domain.com

Thunderbird used to ask me for my password on incoming emails but this has now disappeared and mail is automatically downloaded when I open Thunderbird. How do I re-instate this? I have version 91.10.0 on a Mac and have a POP3 account. I am still asked to enter a password for sending mail and would like to keep this feature.

Recently upgraded Thunderbird from version 61(?) to version 91.0.1. Could not find my address book. Found instructions on how to import address books. Successfully imported contacts. However, they were added to "abook" address book; not "Personal Address Book" (PAB). Tried to move to PAB; would not move. Tried to copy and paste each list to PAB; could not do it. Screenshot of top left part of address book shown (names partially obscured due to privacy).

How do I move all these contact lists from "abook" to the PAB?

Good afternoon -

When I try to send a desktop shortcut or anything else to my Thunderbird Client I see this error message. Tried about 5 fixes on YouTube, none of them worked. How can I get this simple functionality back?

Thunderbird is my default Mail Client. Microsoft Office 2021 is resident, but Outlook is uninstalled.

I'm surprised that this has not been addressed before.

Many thanks for your prompt assistance in helping me resolve this! Keep up the good work.

He had been using Outlook Express for years, so I may have chosen Thunderbird ESR as replacement. He has the latest version (17.0.9) but it has stopped working due to Gmail's security change (oAuth).

Should I backup his profile, uninstall ESR, then download and install latest TBird version to get working again? Thanksbold text

Dear TB helpers, I have a migration problem for email messages needing to be transferred please to a new PC. They resided in my previous TB within local folders, i.e., on my old PC.

Having backed them up by copying and pasting the old profile (and all its contents) on to an external HDD, I have also recopied the profile to a desktop folder on the new PC. It has a lot of sbd suffix folders and msf subfolders and many items with a name but no suffix.

The newly installed TB (IMAP method for my gmail address) on the new PC has a different 8-character ID as the default user new profile, i.e., different from the 8-character ID for the TB profile on the old PC.

Can the old email messages be added to the new TB local folders in the new PC under the new profile by following certain simple steps? I would not want to lose these 25 GB of messages as some could be needed for future reference. Just looking for continuity really but do not trust my knowledge of TB.

Regards, Bill 30may22.

I have Thunderbird installed on two computers.

On one of the computers, emails being held in my inbox are being automatically removed after two weeks (this is not a desirable action, I am loosing important emails), but on the other computer that is configured exactly the same, emails remain in the inbox indefinitely (which is desired).

Both computers are POP and both configured to run the same email account and appear to have all of the same configurations and settings. I saw someone had posted the same problem a while ago and the reply indicated it may be that the ISP or email provider has their settings set to delete emails as per the two week window, but as I can assure you this is not the case, it is a configuration issue with one of the Thunderbird installations, otherwise both of my computers would be deleting the emails while that is not the case.

Thanks,

Jeff Rogerson

Sending of password for user johndoe@gmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted.

This error suddenly started. The answer at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1309075 *** might be the solution but the Options panel seems to have gone and the online instructions in Thunderbird Help also lead to an outdated layout. More updated instructions would be appreciated and especially if written for a very old senile fool. I see that I set the password for my mail over a decade ago and I didn't know what I was doing then 8-) I can still read my email via Chrome.

      • If you viewed the password in Saved Passwords, it indicates you're using 'normal password' authentication instead of the preferred OAuth2. First, check that cookies are enabled in TB Options/Privacy or Privacy & Security (TB 78), set the authentication to OAuth2 in Server Settings for the incoming and also in Outgoing Server (SMTP), then delete the passwords in Saved Passwords, restart TB, enter the current working account password in the OAuth browser window when prompted.
