Hi! For several days I've been unable to check notifications and click emoticons on FB. I just spoke with a tech who checked other browsers (Chrome, Safari) as well as my phone and I was able to do both with them all. But I still can't in Firefox. I've checked to make sure I'm updated, and I am. So she suggested I reach out to you. Should I try uninstalling Firefox and re-installing? I'm assuming I'll lose my history? Thank you!

Hi:

I located the following instructions for sorting bookmarks: "Click Bookmarks and then click the Show All Bookmarks bar at the bottom. Right-clickHold down the Ctrl key while you click on the folder you want to sort, then select Sort By Name. The bookmarks in that folder will be sorted alphabetically.".

I followed them, got to sort but nothing happened regardless how many times I tried. Is this supposed to work on an Apple?

Thanks.

Hello,

I have been having weird problems with my Firefox since I tried getting back to using it. I have reset everything before using it again. I changed the language back to English but the hamburger icon list is in Japanese. A minor issue but I can manage.

But this one is really annoying. I click on a link and it closes it down for me in 1 second. Here's a short clip of what I'm referring to.

Please help me solve my problem. I just want to download files from my email.

Suddenly tabs won't close & hitting "Command" & a link opens a new window instead of a new tab. Anyone know how to make tabs close & also how to revert to allowing "command" + clicking a link to open in a new tab & not a new window? I've tried shift + re-opening Firefox & I tried 'safe mode' & it's still happening.

For the last week or so, I've been having an issue with media not playing properly on websites. Specifically, when I read webpages which have embedded Twitter images or videos, I see the message "The Media Could Not Be Played" where a screenshot of the media used to appear. There is a blue "Reload" button, and when I click it, I can briefly see the screenshot for a split second before "The Media Could Not Be Played" re-appears.

With YouTube videos, they fail to play and I get the message "An error occurred. Please try again later". This happens with both embedded videos on webpages, and directly on the YouTube website itself.

All of this media works properly when I open the same pages in another browser like Chrome. I would prefer not to switch browsers. Is there a way to fix this error?

I am unable to get the 'recommended by Pocket' panel to appear in new tabs with my normal user Firefox profile (Firefox account sign-in) on Mac Catalina. When I go to about:preferences#home the option simply is not present.

I created a new user login on my mac to access banking and other financials. This uses a separate Firefox profile (including new Firefox account sign-in and email), and the 'recomended by Pocket' panel is present.

The panel is present on new tabs opened for my normal Firefox account sign-in on my iOS (iPhone) Firefox install.

The about:config settings searching for 'pocket' appear to be the defaults, and match the settings in the financials account.

I have tried in 'safe mode' (add-ons disabled) and have done a Firefox 'refresh', however my add-ons (and presumably everything else) were restored when I signed back into my normal Firefox user account.

Hovering over the Pocket icon in the address bar displays 'save to Pocket', implying to me that it has signed me into Pocket. I've signed in at getpocket.com. New Firefox profiles without signing in do not show 'recommended by Pocket' in either new tabs or the about:preferences#home configuration page, but I expect the functionality requires being signed in to a Firefox account.

Help or suggestions much appreciated.

I tried three different ways, 10 times, to clear the "Cached Web Content" not matter what I do (6.0KB) remains?

Can someone please help me out here? I cleared and cleared, restarted the machine... I cannot get rid of the (6.0K)?

I'm using a 5 day old new MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), running MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1, using FireFox 83.0 (64-bit)

it's frustrating and I don't want anything stuck in my cache that might be tracking me, following me around.

Firefox had been telling me I needed to do an update for a couple of weeks. So like a fool, today of all days, I said yes. But I did look at what the update was going to do to make my final decision. It looked good so I said OK.

What it actually did was download the complete app and ask if I wanted to keep the old version as well. So I kept the older version (which had been up to date to this point) and opened the new one. It appeared to be totally "plain vanilla" with none of my bookmarks or windows, etc. I looked for my Bookmarks and all it had was some of my bookmarks from the Bookmarks Bar, none of my tons of years of important and properly organized bookmark folders.

I immediately quit, rebooted my computer, and went back to my older app - remember the one I did say to keep - and I got exactly the same behavior from it. I then completely trashed the "new" version and rebooted my computer again . . . then tried the older version . . . but that time things got worse. I did not even get the old Bookmarks Menu bar.

I then rebooted and went to my backup, brought back the copy from my last backup a month ago, and tried to run it. This time I got a message saying that opening the older version could destroy all my settings . . . but I did not care as I would rather go back a month ago than be where I am now! However, it would not allow me to open the older version because of the possibility of destroying . . . nothing!

HOW do I at least get back to my older version that would have probably 90% of my older Bookmarks/Folders and settings? I have that older copy and a full backup of my HD . . . but I do not know what, other than the Foxfire Application I need to look for and replace on my system. I assume there are some files stored in System folders that I need to replace, but I could not find them as I can't find anything in the Library or System directories that are identifiable as Firefox files.

All help appreciated . . . guess there will be no Cyber Monday shopping for me!

Thanks!

Hey y'all,

First, thanks for your attention. This has been driving me nuts over the last few weeks and if I can fix it I'd be very happy.

I switched to Firefox a few months ago and immediately set up the password manager and a bunch of bookmarks. Unfortunately, the next time I shut down my computer and restarted, Firefox said this browser was a new installation and had totally reset, with nothing saved.

This happened again a second time, so I set up a Firefox Account so I could have the settings saved to a profile rather than an installation.

Every time I restart the same thing happens: Firefox has a 'new installation' and none of my settings. The first time I logged in to my Firefox account to sync it, it worked. But I've just installed Catalina, previously using Mojave, and on that restart it happened again, but the Firefox account sync isn't doing anything. Now, every time I open up the browser, even if I haven't restarted the computer, it brings me to the same 'new installation' screen. When I log in to my Firefox account as prompted, none of my previous information syncs. Nothing happens at all after I get the "This Firefox is connected" screen.

I know the sync is at least somewhat connected because I can sync tabs from my phone to my computer.

Any ideas? I can re-do all of my passwords and bookmarks, but I don't want to bother if it isn't getting saved anywhere, or if I can't stop this factory reset whenever my computer shuts off.

I'm on a Macbook running Catalina 10.15 if that matters. Thanks!

Abby

I've been having this issue ever since the latest release of firefox.

Essentially it will be fine for a while and then all of a sudden firefox is unable to retrieve any headers from the fetch response. If I refresh firefox this fixes the issue, but only for a small amount of time. The same bug doesn't happen on chrome and I haven't had it happen to me yet on firefox developer edition. It happens if I use this browser on private browsing with no plugins as well.

Note that we do use a fetch wrapper but it essentially returns the entire response object in the screenshots below.

Also note that it doesn't seem to happen anywhere but localhost. Is there anything I can do here?

In recent weeks, calls with audio have become buggy in Firefox. Whenever I engage in a call that accesses the microphone while I have a bluetooth headset connected, the headset starts continuously toggling call mode on and off for an extended duration. This can be anywhere from 10 seconds/3ish toggles to never-ending (meaning I got tired of waiting after about 3 minutes/55ish toggles).

Today I finally decided to debug further. Here are my findings:

  • Problem only exists in Firefox. I tested with Safari, Chromium, Slack and Discord, with no trouble presenting itself in any of them
  • Problem relates to all bluetooth headsets. I have tested with Sennheiser Momentum 2 Wireless and Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless, with both exhibiting the problem in Bluetooth mode. If I have no bluetooth headsets connected, the problem does not present itself. There is also no problem if I connect the Arctis using the wireless base station (which in turn is connected to the laptop by USB) instead of bluetooth. Using the base station, call and non-call are exposed to my mac as different/simultaneous channels — this may have something to do with it.
  • Problem persists with hardware acceleration toggled off
  • Problem persists in safe mode
  • Problem persists in private mode
  • Problem persists both on Whereby.com and Discord.com. On Whereby, it also interferes with the camera. This leads me to believe it might have something to do with WebRTC, as I think both websites use it.
  • Problem persists after reinstalling Firefox
  • On a possibly related note: if I end the voice chat session after it has stabilised, call mode toggles off slowly and always sends a "start playing media" signal to my Mac, even if it didn't pause anything when toggling call mode on.

In sum, this leads me to believe there is some sort of bug in Firefox causing this, but the lack of other topics on here with the same problem makes me skeptical. I am open to any suggestions with regards to further testing I can do. This is obviously very annoying, and I would like to have bluetooth calls working again.
