I want to attach a file and I click on a button (everything works perfectly on Chrome). When I click, in the console I get this error:

(firefox:3264): Gtk-WARNING **: 13:52:46.781: Can't open portal file chooser: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: L’interface « org.freedesktop.portal.FileChooser » n’existe pas pour l’objet à l’emplacement /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop

Of course, nothing happens when I click. I have Ubuntu 22.04 and apparently Firefox in installed with snap, and I have this problem since snap is used to install Firefox.

If it's useful:

This message is the last I'm writing before I definitely move to Chrome. I hope I'll get the help I couldn't find on other places (I saw a lot of answers telling to deactivate snap, adding a ppa or some solutions like these).

Hi there,

I'm using my PC for local web development. I use Firefox as my regular browser and recently, in order to distinguish between personal time and development time, I've established a new profile just for development purposes.

The local website I can't reach is "site.local.dev". My OS is Ubuntu 20.04 and that URL points to a local IP on my network (resolved via /etc/hosts file on my PC).

Funny thing is that: - In dev-profile: site.local.dev does not work => "Unable to connect" and the URL bar shows https://site.local.dev even if I force it to http:// - In personal-profile: site.local.dev does work :P

I have tried with CLI tools like "wget", "hosts", "ping", "telnet" and so on and the site loads ok. Even I have used Dillo (damn simple web browser) and the site loads ok also.

Things I've tried so far: - Suggestions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can - Suggestions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1011327 (similar issue, not exactly the same).

It must be a silly thing but I'm out of options now. Perhaps anybody has faced to this situation in the past: any suggestion on this issue?.

Thanks in advance, Ibon.

Intermittent Master Password Recognition Issue with External Keyboard on Firefox for Ubuntu

Hello,

I've encountered a recurring issue with Firefox on Ubuntu where my master password is sporadically not recognized when typed using my external wireless keyboard. This problem does not occur consistently but is particularly frustrating when it does, as it forces me to switch to my laptop's keyboard for input. I'm certain the password is entered correctly; after multiple careful attempts (3-5 times), the issue persists, leading to unnecessary stress and inconvenience.

    • Environment:**

- **Operating System:** Latest version of Ubuntu - **Hardware:** Dell Latitude laptop with a Contour external wireless keyboard, connected through a Dell docking station. This setup is shared with another laptop (HP) via the docking station.

    • Observations:**

- The issue seems to occur sporadically and is not reproducible on demand, adding to the frustration. - It has happened notably on the first login attempt after the computer's first boot of the day. - On one occasion, the problem led me to change my master password under the mistaken belief it had been compromised.

    • Impact:**

This intermittent recognition issue disrupts my workflow and significantly affects my user experience with Firefox. The necessity to switch input methods and the initial misinterpretation of the problem as a security concern are particularly concerning.

I hope this detailed feedback assists in identifying and resolving the issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter Firefox.

Sincerely, Daniel

FF updated yesterday with the new Ubuntu 22.04 (Pop) update to 99.01. Since the update the volume control inputs are essentially disabled on all web sites, and they default to max - even when muted.

Example - youtube - all videos play full volume Reddit - even muted videos play full volume

The volume can now only be controlled by the system slider.

The same behavior does not occur in other browsers - e.g. Chromium, Opera, etc.

Can anyone assist?

Summary: Firefox fails to load many sites, and some will kill the entire browser.

I recently updated from Ubuntu 22.10 to 23.04, which included an upgrade to Firefox. I originally had trouble with tab/window dragging operations causing the entire desktop to crash.

Removing the snap and installing from the Firefox maintained PPA fixed this issue, but a number of others remain. (Detail on this part over here on the ubuntu forums if interested)

Now many google sites simply show the loading error for ever and never recover. Some URLS can kill the browser completely. For example, this one from the Mozilla website: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/websites-show-spinning-wheel-never-finish-load The error message is attached.

I am happy to perform more tests and provide more diagnostic if it will help. That same URL works fine from the chromium browser on the same desktop systems,as does every other site I've had issues with.

How to reproduce the bug: Jump to the address bar, and then press shift, ctrol, alt or windows_start, you can see the address getting deleted. You can also see it in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel Online, it just deletes the cell, or a selection of multiple cells. --Interestingly on Google Docs it doesn't delete but just move the cursor to the first character when a string is selected.

It happens only once per mouse click, or focus change

What I expect: Shift, Control or any mod key should not delete content or move a cursor

Thanks!

Since the upgrade to Firefox 104.0.2, the only option when printing is to select "Save to PDF". All other apps can printer to any of my printers. I have to save as a pdf then print the document using the PDF viewer. I have HP4100 & HP9025 printers on my network, that all other apps can see and print to. I've refreshed Firefox & re-installed Firefox but the problem still persists. The System's printer dialog shows that both printers are available and changing default, or reinstalling the printers makes no difference. OS is Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS.

Screenshots show the printer window in Firefox, and the Printer Settings from the OS Settings window.

I have recently updated to Xubuntu 22 and in the process my firefox was migrated to the snap version. Now firefox is using its own mouse pointer style (smaller pointer, "hand with cuff pointing left" instead of "hand pointing up" over links). I can edit the system style of my mouse pointer, but that does not change the mouse pointer while in Firefox. This seems the same problem like these two questions: - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1380997 - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1369875

How do I make Firefox use the system settings for the mouse pointer? Or at least how do I change the mouse pointer style/settings for Firefox snap at all?

For reference my Firefox Version is 104.0.2 (64-bit) Mozilla Firefox Snap for Ubuntu. My desktop environment is xfce 4.16.

Thanks, Peter

Years ago I imported a Firefox profile from Ubuntu 16.04 to a PC running 18.04. It wasn't very hard. View Hidden Folders, find the old FF profile, copy it. Then go to the 18.04 PC, delete or rename the existing profile, and paste in the profile from the 16.04 rig. Restart the PC, Firefox came up on the 18.04 PC just like it did on the 26.04 PC.

But Ubuntu is doing something different now. Firefox is inside the "snap" folder. Apparently snap is some sort of new package mgr. (?)

I found a firefox profile a few levels down inside the snap folder: Home/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default

Does snap complicate things? Or can I replace the new profile on the 22.04 PC inside the snap folder with the profile that I want to use from the 18.04 PC? Just like in the past, but inside snap rather than the .firefox folder in Home?

Noticed yesterday but not as prominent, firefox suddenly steals all window focus, trying to do anything in any other window is pushed into firefox no matter if it is minimised or in another workspace. I have tested this in a clean install along with a clean profile. Bitwarden and other windows seem to act weird when they are interacted with.

This all works well and good on b8 and stable. I am using wayland (Ubuntu 22.* default), but xwayland is available.

I'm using Firefox 106.0.1 on Ubuntu 22.10 from Mozilla's official PPA but when I open some websites the browser crashes with the message "Exiting due to channel error.".
