Upgrading my Linux install to a current version, and in so doing, discovered newer versions of both Firefox and Thunderbird totally disregard title bars and other window decorations. As I run Fluxbox, those are kinda necessary, and the browser and email client both lack essential elements like a close button without them. Many, MANY suggestions to check the "Customize..." but, that doesn't seem to exist in 101? What exists instead is "Customize Toolbar...", which does not have the little checkbox in the lower left corner to re-enable the title bar.

Any suggestions?

I routinely record short screencasts with Kazam, and I can't watch my own videos after posting them on sites like GitHub because Firefox says "Video can't be played because the file is corrupt". Or for example when I upload them to sites like ezgif to convert them to a GIF, which works just fine because, well, the file is not corrupt. Other browsers like Chromium play them just fine.

Apparently the "OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc" is properly enabled in my system. This has been happening to me for months or years, but only today I decided to open a thread here.

There are two things here:

1. Firefox can't play the file. I'm sure there's some sort of misconfiguration on my side, or bad defaults, or a missing plugin, or similar. 2. Firefox shows a misleading message. The file is not corrupt! The root cause is something else.

Any advice on how to fix the first one?

I use Firefox on Linux Debian 11 (Bullseye). After a recent automatic update to Firefox 91.10.0esr, some websites will not load (just sit with a blank page, showing flicking loading symbol). Examples are ocado.com and abelandcole.co.uk. I have tried all the usual things to fix, including, switching off VPN, clearing cookies and caches, running in safe mode, all with no success. Both sites run fine in Vivaldi and Brave. I have eventually got the pages to load by disabling IPv6 in Firefox. Clearly there is a problem with 91.10.0esr. I'm not sure whether the workaround of disabling IPv6 might cause other problems or weaken security or privacy?

I'm using 64-bit Linux Mint 20.3 LTS, and the latest version of Firefox from the repositories (101). Suddenly, for no reason I know, my default profile has started crashing immediately on trying to run Firefox. A small window comes up with the error message

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: chrome://browser/content/browser.xhtml

     <button when-cofnection}"secure-cert-user-overridden"="" <="" pre="">

and then a line of ------^ where the ^ indicates between the t and the i of cofnection

Yes, I emphasise that I HAVE copied the error message carefully, including the mismatched bracket pair and the cofnection rather than (I assume) connection

I've managed to get a working version of Firefox by creating a new profile and using that (as in for posting this request for help), and I do have a recent backup of my bookmarks, but it will be a royal PITA if all my logins and passwords have disappeared. I don't want to go any further than this without some guidance, as all the messages I've found detailing how to fix this seem to make the assumption that I'm running Windows.

Can anybody help, please?

Hello, (we are using the latest FF) due to technical requirements we share the same Firefox with our children. We use the primary/master password to access all passwords but FF asks for it just once at the very begin. Once we type the primary/master password in FF never asks again what means that our children can use them as well. Is there any setting in FF that will ask for the primary/master password every time we access password protected web page ?

Hello everyone,

I am a long time Firefox user and absolutely love it. First of all thank you for this amazing product.

I run Firefox with "Open previous windows and tabs" selected in my General settings. When I exit/restart Firefox, it reopens all my windows and their tabs. More importantly, it places them in their original desktop workspaces, BUT this only works reliably in Windows.

In Linux I have a problem in that some windows "remember" the workspace they were in, some however insist on reappearing on the "first" workspace.

I use Firefox with GNOME 42 and a fixed number of workspaces. (Gnome now has dynamic workspaces which are a bit similar to Mac OS, but I have turned that off.

Right now I have 6 windows open:

  • two of them (L1/L2) are Linux-related and are in workspace 1
  • two of them (D1/D2/D3) are Development-related and are in workspace 2
  • one of them (S1) is science-related and is in workspace 3

When I exit Firefox and restart it, all windows go back to their respective workspace except for D3 which appears in workspace 1 instead of 2.

Furthermore, if I open a new window (N1) and visit any site, then it exit/restart always makes it reappear in workspace 1.

This is very annoying. I have no idea how L1/L2/D1/D2/S1 have “stuck” to their original workspaces, but anything new I open seems to ignore the workspace it was placed in and insists on reappearing in workspace 1.

Is this something Firefox controls, or is it the role of the desktop (in this case GNOME) to do this?

When I open Firefox through the GUI nothing happens. It acts as if I never tried to open it.

When I attempt to open it via the CLI I get:

joshua@joshua-Z390-AORUS-PRO-WIFI:~$ firefox /snap/firefox/1443/snap/command-chain/desktop-launch: line 52: /home/joshua/.config/user-dirs.dirs: Permission denied sed: can't read /home/joshua/.config/user-dirs.dirs: Permission denied /snap/firefox/1443/snap/command-chain/desktop-launch: line 261: /home/joshua/.config/user-dirs.dirs: Permission denied cp: cannot open '/home/joshua/.config/user-dirs.locale' for reading: Permission denied /snap/firefox/1443/snap/command-chain/desktop-launch: line 266: /home/joshua/.config/user-dirs.locale: Permission denied Error: cannot open display: :0

For context: Ubuntu: 22.04 LTS

The update that I ran was simply generic system updates through the app store. Notably though it was the snap store not the ubuntu software store. Don't know if that matters.

Any ideas? Thanks a million!

OS: ArchLinux DE: i3wm, X11 GPU: GTX770, Kepler, proprietary nvidia driver Firefox version: 98.0(64-bit)

Hi! Since updating Firefox to 98.0 I've been experiencing sudden performance drops(lags/freezes/stutters) while scrolling. `about:support` page shows that compositing is `WebRender`. The issue occurs with fresh profile without any addons installed and also in `firefox-nightly`(100.0a1). However, scrolling is totally smooth in 97.0.2 and earlier versions of Firefox.

What changes in Firefox 98 could cause this, and are there any settings in `about:config` I can try to tune to solve the issue? These are the settings I've always used, and, as I mentioned, scrolling was smooth before 98.0:

gfx.webrender.all = true general.smoothScroll.mouseWheel.durationMaxMS = 400 general.smoothScroll.mouseWheel.durationMinMS = 200 mousewheel.min_line_scroll_amount = 40 mousewheel.system_scroll_override.enabled = false

Just updated my Fedora 36 workstation and tried to play videos in CNN and MSNBC web sites and get the error message: "Code: 4 | Message: Something went wrong during native playback." I am using the latest Firefox WEB browser. UTube videos are playing fine. Someone has stated on the Fedora forum that they have the same problem but has no problem in Chrome on the same machine. I went to settings and set firefox to open links in a NEW TAB instead of a new window, but it still opens links in a new window. I did a search on google and when I click on the link for the website to see the information it is still opening in a new window. How can I fix this so I don't have a lot of new windows. It's irritating to have to close all those stinking windows just to get back to my original window. I just want the links I click on to open in a new tab.

Ok, there might exist a solution to this, but I am not able to find it or even a better way to explain it.

So, the main issue is, I have a lots of tabs open on my Firefox (Linux) and after some minutes of inactivity, Firefox automatically deletes all the data associated with that site.

So, when I switch back to that site, it reloads.

The main issue is with Whatsapp Web, as I don't get notification if I don't switch to the tab every now and then.

There might be a option for this behavior in the settings but I can't seem to find it.

Please help me find a solution.

Thanks
