When checking if the download site has the latest version (It is often later than somw download sites) there is no version number to see before download. Can iut not be included on the download page (Other languages) as is the case with Thunderbird

For Firefox Releases on mozilla.org they are not late they just do not update until it is officially out for Release. The random download sites that had Firefox 28.0 listed before today jumped the gun by grabbing it from ftp as it can get pulled at last moment.

You can find the full version of the current Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

If you hover a link on this page then you can see the version information.

See also the "Check the system requirements" link on the all.html page and the Release Notes link on the "system requirements" page.

Hi James I was aware of the page you refer to and it is the same as I referred to in my question. The version of the file which can be downloaded is not stated anywhere on it and I tried hovering over a English British link and all it gives is a popup text saying "Download for Windows" not the version number. I tried it in Firefox, Chrome and IE.

The other page you refer to does not give a specific version for a download link only a generic "Requirements" for a specific version. It currently does give them for V28 but I downloaded the file about an hour and a half ago and it downloaded V27. The problem is simple, until you start the download you are not able to see what version you are downloading.

In contrast the Thunderbird equivalent page gives the version number before starting any download, a much better solution.

Just tried the download again and it did download V28 so I must have tried initially just before the site was updated with the latest version. It would be nice though to have it shown without having to go looking further.
