Clearing the cookies didn't seem to work. It just started happening about 2-3 days ago. Could it be an Adobe plug-in or something? I think it updated a couple of days ago but I'm not sure. It only seems to be happening when I try to open a page on LinkedIn article links.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Are you talking about links on a web page or about opening a bookmarked link to a specific page?

You might also need to clear the cache, in case Firefox has cached an old redirect.

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

Instead of clicking or Ctrl+clicking the links, try using either right-click > Open in a New Tab or "middle" clicking with the mouse wheel. These methods of opening the article should bypass tracking scripts, in case one of those is the problem.

Didn't work. I tried the cache clearing and I tried opening in new windows as you recommended. Same error. It only seems to be a problem with LinkedIn. At least so far.

Hmm, usually it's the cache and/or cookies.

If you hover your mouse over the problem links and check the destination that Firefox displays at the bottom of the window, do they start with:

http://www.linkedin.com/redirect?url=http...

It is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted if clearing cookies doesn't work.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Oy. Now the links are going someplace but they're all opening on some random LinkedIn page that has nothing to do with any articles I'm trying to read. Maybe the cache clearing did work? <shrug>

I tried to do the cookies.sqlite folder thing and got completely lost because I can't seem to find it in the profile folder. I tried to follow the instructions given but I'm just not that bright about these things.

Thank you for all of your help!
