This looks like a problem with a SSL or TLS secure connection.

Does Firefox try to restore a previous session?

Try to delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

It opens to the "Well, this is embarrassing" page, saying it can't restore my previous session. It normally waits there for input from the user, so it's not trying to load any pages. However, I could see that the two tabs I had open were Facebook and Udacity.

However, this last time I tried to open it and it crashed, I got a dialog offering to reset Firefox or open in Safe Mode. I selected reset. It reset Firefox, but it still opens to the "embarrassing" page and immediately crashes. Now it has no pages it was trying to open, though. I've only gotten the reset/safe mode dialog that one time in about 30 starts.

I'll try recreating the profile tomorrow afternoon when I get back in, unless someone comes up with something more definitive by then. Thanks for the suggestion!
