how do I save a bookmark or folder on my desktop
With my old IE browser I could right click on any homepage and save it to my desktop. How do I accomplish this with Firefox?

To create a shortcut on the desktop, you can drag-and-drop the "site identity" icon (it's either a globe or a padlock that appears to the left of the URL on the address bar).
If that's inconvenient (for example, if you always use Firefox maximized), there might be an extension which lets you create the shortcut from inside Firefox. If you want to search for one, you can start here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/
