So basically, up until just tonight, my Restore Previous Session button was functional. Suddenly, it's not working. I have not changed any settings at all. Also, my Firefox periodically freezes up now when trying to go to and from Private Browsing, so I wonder if the two problems are somehow connected (no, I am not attempting to restore a session from Private Browsing). Any suggestions? Thanks!

Just to post some additional info (also glad to see more people are having this issue, because it decreases the likelihood that it has to do with my computer, haha) the problem is resolved when I change to the automatic "restore previous session" setting as opposed to loading my homepage, but I'd prefer to have the option as to whether or not I restore my session (hence why I used the button as opposed to using that setting).

Thanks in advance for any help, and anyone else having this problem, please keep reporting it and/or share your experiences so we can hopefully get this thing noticed and/or resolved.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Before I try this out sometime tomorrow, tell me, will Firefox immediately create new copies of the files I delete, or will I need to manually recreate something?

more options

Firefox will create new copies when required.

A test is to select:

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Also make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

The peculiar part is that Firefox successfully restores sessions when I ask it to by default, it is literally only the homepage button that doesn't work properly. Should I still try to erase the sessionstore files? Also, thanks for all the help!

Are you using Clear Recent History to clear data when you close Firefox?

more options

No. And this also doesn't have anything to do with Private Browsing, either. It really is peculiar.

Does the History > "History > Restore Previous Session" menu entry work?

Does it help if you close Firefox via Firefox/File > Exit Firefox?

more options

History menu works (as does setting Firefox to restore by default), using File changes nothing.

That seems to be a problem with the snippets on the about:home page.

Use the "Restore Previous Session" entry in the History menu instead.
