I have just updated, and when I click the icon, the browser doesn't come up. I checked the task manager to see if anything was going on: it seems whenever I click the icon, firefox.exe momentarily shows up, before mysteriously closing on itself. Any ideas as to why it does this and how I can fix this?

And yes, I have restarted my computer numerous times, thank you very much.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
