All HTML file icons changed to IE file icon image in Windows XP
I am running Windows XP. I just recently upgraded to Firefox 6.0.1, but just this morning I discovered that ALL of my HTML file icon images have been changed to the default IE file icon image. Firefox still is the default browser. Nothing I do seems to reset these icons to the Firefox icon using the File Types interface. I have switched back to IE and back to my preferred Firefox, but that doesn't reset the icons, either. I have tried a couple of solutions involving using regedit, but nothing has worked yet. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

You could just change the icon representing html files to one of the icons embedded in Firefox.
That sounds that the default browser has been changed to IE.
Sorry, finitarry, but I already tried that. I was able to revert them to the Firefox file icons by deleting the iconcache through the regedit interface and then using the File Types & Advanced interfaces to reset the browser to Firefox and reset the file icons, but it didn't last. The Firefox icons last only until I reboot, and then they get replaced by the IE file icons again.

Sorry, cor-el, ... nice try, but I have already declared my default browser as my favorite ... Firefox. I first used IE to set the default to IE, and then ran Firefox to reset the default to Firefox. I also used the File Types interface to insure that Firefox was the program to be used and that the icons were set to Firefox, but the IE icons re-assert themselves after a re-boot.
(Microsoft must have infinite wisdom over what it "knows" we need ... yeah, right!)

So far, nothing I have done is a permanent fix. I could still use some suggested solutions.
When Firefox began using the icon that looks like a sheet of paper with a little logo in the middle, I did not like that, so I first extracted the normal Firefox logo icon from Firefox as a standalone icon, then changed the setup for html, htm, xml, etc. extensions to use that icon. That worked.
Another thing you could try is increasing the size of the icon cache with the registry editor. I found that helped prevent the icons being displayed incorrectly.
