I am running Windows 8.1. I am 6/10 computer literacy.

I am trying to make Firefox open all the internet icons on windows start menu. Windows automatically opens everything with Internet Explorer.

WAIT. I have gone way beyond making Firefox my default browser. I did this and still all icons open with IE.

I am into CONTROL PANEL>Default Programs> Change program or Protocol.

Located: .website (still had IE as default) (then pressed the 'change program' option top right)

drop down menu appears but firefox doesnt appear in program files..........but found it in program files x86

Changed to protocol to Firefox.

All good so far (little FF image appears next to .website in list)

Back to icons on windows start: pressed for example my gmail icon: this appears (see image attached not uploading image)


its a Pop up window: saying...."you have chosen to open gmail.website"...........""Do you want to open with....Firfox (default)"

I click yes and it does not open gmail at all but instead opens another tab with the same pop up box? No gmail just empty tabs.

I have read for 2 days solutions: I have re/installed FF 3 times , delted all extra files, refreshed firefox, checked firewalls with McAfee,

Is it just Microsoft insisting we use IE? or is there something else.
