I unable to see what I´m doing the same happens for all tabs and menus, it but the issue still persists, this is in a desktop with window 7. Don´t really know what to do. had to go back to previews version. its hard to troubleshoot when everything is black and you can´t see the buttons.

Isisombululo esikhethiwe

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Disabling acceleration works for me too. But we need to narrow down the cause of the problem, otherwise nobody is likely to fix it.

In case it helps, I have exactly the same problem with version 10 of MS Visual Web Developer, which also presents black windows unless hardware acceleration is disabled. So the problem is not unique to firefox.

Most likely culprit is the video driver, which is NVIDIA 6.14.12.6658 running on a geforce 6200. This is the latest available on the web, but I have tried previous drivers too with the same result.

Is everybody else using nvidia ?

I have a similar problem, although a bit more complicated.

I'm using Firefox 4.0 Beta11 on an MSI GE600, which features switchable graphics between the built-in Intel GMA HD and AMD mobility Radeon 5730. Firefox works fine on both graphics cards, but problems appear if I start it on the Intel card and then switch to the Ati card. Then the same problem as the original poster's one appears - all the menus turn black, some of the tabs too, other just show the same contents as the tab that was the focus when the switch occurred.

If I switch back to the intel card, again FF works fine. Also, if I turn FF off when the problem occurs and then turn it back on, the problem disappears. Also, if I switch to the Intel card then, there are no problems, and even if I switch back to Ati again then, everything still works fine.

If I turn HW acceleration off, there are no problems at all.

I'm using Catalyst 11.1a.

my firefox tabs kept going black after Switchable Graphics on my HP Pavilion dv7 would change over (after plugging/unplugging the power cord). turning off 'Use hardware acceleration when available' fixed that, now my tabs remain usable when toggling Switchable Graphics. thanks a lot for the fix!
