I have been getting the following error for 2 days straight now, Firefox is already running but is not responding.

I have restarted my Firefox Browser and computer multiple times during the past 2 days and still am receiving this error. If I uninstall firefox and reinstall it 1. Will this get rid of the error message? and 2. Will my favorites be there still when I reinstall?

Thank you.

There are several possible causes for that error, for details see the "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error - How to fix article.

ok, I have followed all instructions on this page: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile

down to the working with profiles, what do you do after you 4.Double-click the folder with “default” in the name to open it, that is as far as the page got, what am i looking for in there.

To ensure that you are in the right place, are there quite a few files including places.sqlite, cookies.sqlite and sessionstore.js? If there are, you need to check for a file called parent.lock, if it is there you should delete it.

If that file does not exist, you need to try other parts of the article I linked to.

yes, there are all those files including the parent.lock file, I tried to delete and got the following:

Cannot delete parent: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

You could try one of the free utilities that are availabe to try to delete the file, for details on some of them see http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/deletelockedfiles.shtml

An alternative is to create a new profile. For details on that see creating a new Firefox profile on Windows. You can then transfer data from your old profile as shown here - Transferring data to a new profile.
