But I am able to surf the net on all my regular websites etc. (facebook , hotmail, banking, ebay etc) I dont know why this is happening. I tried then to visit ANY other anti virus website and none of them will open and give me the same page error above. help me please

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.

If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

If you can open other websites, then I don't think it's the problems with your add-ons. I assume you went to: http://www.avast.com/index to download the program, right? Do you mean the website won't open at all or just the download window won't open?

Sounds like some of the malware out there right now. Download a good malware remover like MalwareBytes. Some Malware prevents u from accessing any site which can help you. so you may need a second computer. Also, if you are on a router, try those sites while wired into the modem directly. If it is okay, then router is infected.

Here is advice from the Malwarebytes forum and an alternative link to download Malwarebytes. Notice especially the renaming of the mbam-setup.exe file before installation and the mbam.exe file after installation.

Other anti-malware applications you should download and run after Malwarebytes. You should download, install, update and run as many of these as possible. Different anti-malware programs do not all detect the same malware.

If you still have problems, use one of the following specialized sites for malware removal. Be sure you read their rules for posting and follow their advice to the letter:

After you get the malware cleaned from your system, you need to update some plug-ins on your system that contain known security issues:
