the clear history no longer clears usernames and passwords stored. I've made sure every tab it clicked but firefox won't let go of my passwords that it has stored. The old firefox worked no problem.

When you use Tools > Clear recent history, make sure Form and search history is check marked and Time range is set to Everything.

You can't remove passwords via "Tools > Clear Recent History" in Firefox 3.5/6 If you want to remove passwords then you have to do that in the Password Manager (Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Show Passwords") or use "Tools > Options > Privacy : History: [[X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings" to clear passwords.

If you mean websites remembering you then you have to clear the cookies from those web servers. You can delete the related files in the Firefox Profile Folder if the normal ways in Firefox do not work.
