Previous versions of TB did not chain or link replied messages to the original and were received as separate messages. So if I have a reply to a message it comes in in TB as a new received message. Now however it is linked to the original so there are "sub messages" linked under the original. How can I change that TB behavior back to the single message only? Replies get buried under multiple layers of linked messages which is often an issue even seeing a new one come in.

Tnx for anyone who may provide guidance. Searching the TB forums has not provided an answer.

My guess is you are experiencing Thunderbird's default setting since ver 102 to thread messages. You can fix that by changing the sort order to unthreaded. That can be done in two ways. If you have the menu bar (which can be invoked by pressing the Alt key if not visible) , click view>sort by> unthreaded. OR, you can click the icon to the right of the quick filter button above the message list pane and select 'sort by'

To change default for *new* folders, In config editor, you can change default that applies to NEW folders you set up: mailnews.default_view_flags 0 = unthreaded

Config editor is available at Tools>settings>general and scroll to bottom
