hi,

i recently changed my firefox sync password and primary email. no problems here. everything went smoothly. then went away on a little holiday. when i got back, the browser didn't accept my password. thinking 6 days of sun and heat must've melted down my memory cells, i reset it. unproblematic process. received email notifications about the update. but the same thing happened again. i very slowly and carefully typed the password several times, copy&pasted it, just in case, then reset it once more, just in case. then restarted firefox. then deleted and downloaded it again. still doesn't work.

i can log into mozilla acounts with the new password, so the issue with the browser.

please help! i have years of stuff saved on that account - it would be really tragic to lose it.

thank you already.

(also, i don't have 2FA set-up)

Delete all cookies, clear cache...etc? Ultimately uninstall, delete the directory and reinstall.

thanks for the reply.

so, i hadn't deleted the directory. which resolved the login issue, the browser does now accept my password.

however it hasn't synced anything. i am basically using a fresh clean firefox. none of my personal settings, bookmarks and most importantly passwords are there.

i had managed to export the bookmarks before deleting and settings are easy enough re-personalise. but the passwords...

Do you have a backup of logins.json and key4.db ?

You can install the About Sync extension to check what data is stored on the Sync server via the about:sync page provided by this extension.

Close and restart Firefox to access the about:sync page added by this extension (see the about:about page for possible about pages).

Hi, so, thanks for the response and apologies for not getting back earlier - as the world exploded yet again, my browser issues felt secondary.

The good thing that came out of this is that I now know where Firefox personal settings are stored on my computer, the bad thing is that they are gone: in my early morning caffeinated zeal I had emptied out my bin...

I know Firefox generally attracts those with above average tech skills and most of those people would never find themselves in this situation, but it is too naive to expect that the default setting of a "sync" would sync stuff?

If anyone from Mozilla somehow ends up reading this, can you please make it clearer somewhere on the browser settings tab (for the non-techie user) what the sync includes and not.

In the grand scheme of things, it's ok if I never have access to a Weheartit account I haven't used much in 10+ years when people in various places in the world are losing everything they have, but for others the password losses may have far worse consequences.

Thank you...
