Comcast/xfinity started forcing MFA authentication here. Thunderbird is now disconnected. How to I reconfigure to accommodate MFA? I poked around FAQs and such and found references to 0auth2 authentication method but that option doesnt appear as an option in my settings. Only normal password, encrypted password, kerberos/gss api, ntlm, and tls certificate.

How do I fix this? I am on 102.2.2.

Unfortunately no. That's all about configuring things on the Xfinity or Comcast side. My problem is with Thunderbird. I cant figure out how to make it work. The 0auth2 authentication option I've read so much about doesnt show up in Thunderbird, despite being on the latest release 102.2.2.

There are no required changes in Thunderbird. You should still be using Authentication Method: Normal Password

First can you confirm the following because if it is not selected then nothing will work. Have you turned on the setting mentioned at this link. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/third-party-email-access You need to check the box under 'Third Party Access Security' to allow third-party programs access to your Xfinity Connect email.

Please confirm that checkbox is selected.

Perhaps you are wanting to set up Two-Step Verification in My Account - that's done via the webmail account - not in Thunderbird.

Follow the information at the link to switch on 2 step and get the code sent to either your mobile phone or another email address - to get your verification code, however, you will be given the option to not require the code for future sign-ins from that particular device when using the same browser or app.

If you have switched on the 2 step verification, then you get a passcode.

You use that passcode in Thunderbird instead of the normal password. If you have passwords stored -

  • Menu icon > Settings > Privacy & Security
  • Under Passwords section
  • click on 'Saved Passwords'

You will see two lines for email address incoming and smtp Select each line and click on 'Remove'

  • Click on 'Close'

Restart Thunderbird. It will ask for password - Enter passcode.
