Now I am not talking about junk or trash, I understand how that works. But some messages, mostly ones sent automatically from a contact form I have, the subject is prefixed with (Spam?) although they are not.

Is this a Thunderbird thing, could it be an AVG thing, or windows defender or what but is so annoying

It could even be your email provider. You can narrow this a bit by reviewing the messages online to see if the word is in subject there.

Indeed it was my hosting company - I have not resolved the problem entirely but I have disable spam scanning for my domain entirely. Ideally I would like to identify why emails sent automatically to myself via my php script get marked as spam and amend script accordingly but now I know the source of the problem. Thanks
