If I delete one of my three Thunderbird accounts, will I lose my hundreds of saved emails? If I would, can I save them by 'archiving' them?

I think my question sums it up. I have two active personal accounts, and one that's been inactive for two years: my former business email account. Each time I boot Thunderbird I get an error message saying that I can't log into the account (I broke the vital forwarding link that used to point to my local server), and I'd like to eliminate the need to close the two error windows that always pop up. But I'm afraid that if I delete the account or change something in its "Settings" that I'll lose my 10 years of collected and sorted emails.

Well, a simple approach that doesn't require much technical skill would be to use the importexport addon. With it, you can export all messages from a folder. Then, define a new folder in Local Folders. Next, with the addon, import the messages. After you're content that all is saved, you could then delete the account. Be sure to do a full backup of your message folders to an external device to protect you from hardware or software errors.
