I'm not sure if this is a general bug in the latest beta, or some other maybe known problem that just happened to get triggered by the update, but since I updated to 94.0b1, about every two minutes the status bar and the activity manager show TB 'bringing folder Inbox up to date' and re-downloading the last 42 emails in one account and 19 in another, which are the most used of the 6 accounts I have configured in TB. This is just going on every two minutes, hour after hour, day after day, with the number being re-fetched in each of the two accounts increasing by one after each actual new email arrives. (Of the other 4 accounts, 3 haven't had a new email since the issue started, but one has had one new email per day, but is not showing this every-two-minute re-fetching.) This is not re-fetching all of the emails in the two affected accounts - both mailboxes contain about 11000 emails - but probably just the emails that have come since the issue started. TB HAS downloaded those emails as I've opened and looked at or read every single one, but nevertheless every two minutes I get the 'bringing folder inbox up to date' for both of the two accounts. I have tried both compacting and repairing both folders (although it doesn't actually display anything to show me TB has actually done either of those things), but that didn't make any difference.

Does anyone know if this is a widespread 94.0b1 bug, so I just need to wait for it to be fixed in (hopefully) the next beta? Or is this a known glitch that cna appear in TB with a known fix?

Thanks.

It's still doing it in TB 94.0b2, so I'm thinking this isn't a beta bug but some kind of problem. Any suggestions?

Well, in case this is some help to anyone else:

After some Googling on others over the years who have had this repeated re-downloading and seeing recommendations, I:

1 Deleted the inbox.msf file from the two main affected inboxes. Thunderbird then went through apparently re-downloading all 10000+emails in the one account and all 11000+ in the other. Many, many hours later it finished, then, 2 minutes after it finished each it started re-downloading them all AGAIN, so instead of repeatedly re-downloading the 50 odd new mails since this started in one account and 20 odd in the other, it was now re-downloading ALL mails since I started with Thunderbird years ago.

2 I deleted the two Imapmail folders and replaced them with ones from an exported profile backup from a week or two ago. On starting, Thunderbird caught up, then went back to re-downloading all 10000+ and 11000+ from the beginning, and now all the sent, draft etc too, and after finishing hours later, just re-started them all again.

3 In some desperation I turned to my Acronis backup from last week of the drive my Thunderbird profile is on, and restored the entire profile folder from the backup. Same as 2, caught up, but then began cycling through re-downloading all 10000+ and 11000 plus again and again.

4 In complete desperation I re-restored the profile folder from last weeks backup of the data folder and this time ALSO restored the Thunderbird program, which put Thunderbird back to 93.0b5 from 94.0b2. On starting. Thunderbird caught up ... and FINALLY was OK again, no re-downloading all the emails.

So, it looks like it was the 94 beta after all. And of course it's now telling me an update - 94.0b2. Which I'm now very loathe to update to. But if this is a 94.0beta thing, why am I not seeing other people screaming about it?

It's happening to me too, so it's not just you. It's gotta be these latest betas too, because even nuking the profile folder and reconfiguring accounts only fixes the issue for a couple hours, then it starts to go nuts again.

Very few people experience this because quarantine is disabled by default.

To clean up the folders that are too large, right+click > compact or right+click > properties > repair

Have re-updated to 94.0b3 from 93.0b5 after turning off quarantine option, and it appears to be OK now. Am disabled and a home crisis meant I had to drop out of the bugzilla discussion on this, but I see I was right that the problem was the download status of messages received after updates to 94.0b1, 2 and 3 wasn't recorded by the 94s for those of us affected - very pleased someone figured out it was the quarantine option set to true that was the cause. Looking forward to the update fixing this.
