I read your thread on connection issues with Spectrum. The only way I was able to send outgoing mail is by using "insecure password". (incoming works fine with recommended settings.) Is this a problem?

No it is not really. Spectrum is your ISP, so the insecure part is only within their network, not the internet as a whole.
