In TB I had a snafu I somehow caused myself with missing folders that I'd created. I got that fixed finally but in the process of doing so I downloaded TB again. Now I have two email accounts [myname@bellsouth.net, and myname@bellsouth.net_2; both with the same inbound and outbound servers, same everything].....except one account has "_2" at the end of it. The "_2" one is the first listed. The one without "_2" is further down, vertically. All folders I created are now in both accounts. I want to get back to just the one account I originally had. I "think" I can probably just remove the account with the "_2" at the end (Tools, Account Settings, Account Actions, Remove Account). In fact, the _2 one is highlighted and the Remove option is available. If I highlight the account without the _2 that option to Remove is grayed out. I just don't want another screw up on my part. Can someone please advise?

select the account without the 2 is the list of "options" in the left tree of the account settings abbreviated. When the account is selected does it show "The following is a special account. There are no identities associated with it"?

If the answer to both of the above is yes, you have renamed your local folders account and you can not delete it. (the only account I am aware of that can not be deleted is local folders) so I am being exceedingly cautious.

The first account in the list in Account Settings is the Default, and cannot be removed, so set the other account as default, in Account Actions, then the first account can be removed.

Matt, just so you know what I'm looking at, I clicked Tools, then Account Settings. A second window opens titled Account Settings. I highlighted the account without the 2. To the right side of that "Account Settings" heading it does say this: The following is a special account. There are no identities associated with it.

I don't see anything abbreviated. There are only two options under the account without the 2. Junk Settings and Disk Space. Under that is Outgoing Server (SMTP) -- which is bolded.

I tried to upload a screenshot for you but it says the file is too big for this site.

Sfhowes, I can't set the either of the accounts as default because that is grayed out on both. The one ending with _2 is the default one because thats the mail goes in to. Matt thinks that one cannot be deleted because it says "The following is a special account. There are no identities associated with it".

The Remove Account is available on the _2 account; but not available on the other.

I wish I could attach a screen shot but this site only allows 1024KB.

Got the screen shot. I'll send another of the other account with the _2.

this is the account with the _2

If one of the accounts looks like the attached picture when you select it in Account Settings, it has been mistakenly renamed from Local Folders to something else. That leaves the account at the top that actually receives mail, and the misnamed Local Folders. Only a mail account can be removed.

more options

Just rename the 'special account' to Local Folders and then rename the top account to something like BellsouthPOP (naming the account after the address should be avoided).

See my prior post. It does say 'special account'. Sounds reasonable. I'll try that.

sfhowes, that worked. Thanks.

Now I have my personal folders I created under both the Bellsouth POP and Local Folders. I guess now I can just delete one of those duplications. Right?

It doesn't hurt to keep the Local Folders as a backup in case something goes wrong with the POP account or you decide to switch to IMAP. As always, a backup of the profile folder to an external location is recommended.
