I know Thunderbird 78 has been out for a little while now but was wondering if anyone knew the EOL date for 68, where it no longer receives any new updates

Thanks

I know Thunderbird 78 has been out for a little while now but was wondering if anyone knew the EOL date for 68, where it no longer receives ''any'' new updates Thanks

the standard is the point 2 release of the new version will coincide with the last release in the previous version. So 78.2 which coincided with 68.12 should have seen 68 go EOL.

This is not necessarily correct with the 78 release as some nasty upgrade bugs have been found and automatic updates have been suspended until they are fixed. 78.3 fixed a lot of those (PGP mainly) and 78.4 which will be release next week fixes more. Will a further release in the 68 series occur? It might, but I doubt it. A mass update over the next 2 weeks is actually my guess.

I have seen nothing from the release management guy about it exactly but I do not anticipate a 68.13 release. But until we have automatic updates to 78 enabled then a major bug found in 68 could see another point release.

I can absolutely state 68.12.1 is the end - the 68 infrastructure will soon be removed and so there will be no more updates.

Thanks Wayne. I will bow to your superior knowledge.

Matt and Wayne, thanks for the answers. I had figured it was coming soon but I just wasn't sure how soon before it stopped even receiving security patches, etc. (think XP will forever hold on to that record).

I had installed 78 on one system to see how I liked it. It was pretty good but even 78.3 still had PGP issues such as not always displaying the icons, etc., so hopefully they will get that fixed.

yes, the icons are being worked on. There is an improvement in 78.3.3 just out last night https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/78.3.3/releasenotes/ and further changes are coming.

On the one system I did that is running v78 I did update it to 78.3.3 and it still had some issues about not showing PGP icons for signed messages. So hopefully that will be fixed at some point

I am running 78.3.3 on that one system but it still has issues with the PGP icons. It is not showing them for some PGP signed messages. Hopefully that can be fixed soon
